It might not be a perfect film, but there’s no question that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been received better than any of the entries in the prequel trilogy. It introduces characters we care about, it mixes CGI and practical effects in a way that surprises and delights the audience and it feels like a true return to form for the franchise.
But does it also take a shot at creator George Lucas?

In the very first scene of the film, we see Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) sitting down with a character by the name of Lor San Tekka (Max von Sydow) in order to retrieve a piece of a map which he has been tasked to deliver to the Resistance.
As Lor San Tekka hands over the object, he says the following to Poe: “This will begin to make things right.”
He’s clearly referring to the fact that completing the map will help the Resistance as they attempt to defeat the First Order, but some fans believe that this line of dialogue has a double meaning. Some fans think that J.J. Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan are sneakily apologizing for the train wreck that was George Lucas’ prequel trilogy through one of their own characters.
Of course, Abrams has been nothing but gracious to Lucas since he was offered the job, so it’s unlikely he will ever admit to slighting the creator of the series… but I have a sneaking suspicion that there’s at least a trace of the fourth wall being broken when Lor San Tekka speaks with Poe at the beginning of the film.
