Sony will unveil its highly-anticipated “high-end” PlayStation 4 early next month, according to two separate publications. On Monday morning, French gaming site Gameblog reported that Sony is going to hold an event on September 7th in New York to reveal the upgraded PS4 console it announced in June.

Patrick Klepek and Austin Walker of Vice Gaming followed up with a report of their own, claiming that multiple sources familiar with the project had confirmed the information to them. One source told them that the event would serve as a “technical showcase” for the console, and that Sony was still trying to figure out what it wanted to show off at the event in the past few weeks.

Finally, another source told Klepek and Walker that Sony would begin shipping dev kits to developers around the same time as the showcase event.

We first learned of the PS4 Neo (internal codename) when Klepek reported on it for Kotaku back in March. Sony eventually confirmed the existence of the console in June, days before E3 2016 kicked off, but announced that it would not be making an appearance at the industry’s biggest trade show.

Microsoft capitalized by unveiling not one, but two of its own hardware upgrades for the Xbox One. Although some users were understandably confused about why Microsoft would unveil the Xbox One S when Project Scorpio is just over a year away, there’s no question that Microsoft dominated the headlines.

Can Sony steal the spotlight back? We should find out next month.
