Play PS4 games on your PC or Mac with the next major console update

On Tuesday morning, Sony revealed that the next system software update for the PlayStation 4 will be available to those in the beta program starting this week. Codenamed MUSASHI, the 3.50 update is one of the most meaningful to hit the PS4 in months, bringing both minor improvements and major new features to the console.

PlayStation has always lagged behind Xbox when it comes to social features, but the 3.50 update should bring the two closer to parity.

When the update releases, PS4 users will be able to appear offline so that they won’t be disturbed, turn on friend online notifications to be alerted when their friends come online, see what other party members are playing and even schedule future gameplay sessions with friends who will be automatically added to the party once the event begins.

But the centerpiece of the update has to be PS4 Remote Play finally making its way to PC and Mac. It won’t be available to test in the beta, but once update 3.50 launches later this year, everyone with a PS4 will be able to stream games directly to their PC or Mac. Best of all, the PS4 controller is basically plug-and-play on computers, so gamers won’t have to fiddle around with the controls to make everything work.

Finally, Dailymotion live streaming will come to PS4 as well, but the PlayStation team has even more to reveal in the coming weeks, including a release date.
