Last Friday, Nvidia took the stage in Austin, Texas in order to unveil the exceptionally fast — yet surprisingly affordable — GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 graphics cards. With its new Pascal architecture, Nvidia was able to produce cards that were even faster than its flagship Titan X GPU at a fraction of the cost.

Nvidia also took the opportunity to show off a demo of the upcoming Doom game using the GTX 1080, and the results truly spoke for themselves.

Using the GTX 1080, Nvidia was able to run the game smoothly at an astounding 200 frames per second on Ultra graphics settings. Unfortunately, there was no direct feed footage of the demo available following the event, but Doom developer id Software was able to replicate the demo using a Titan X:

“We weren’t capturing live, (and accidentally left our GTX 1080 at the event when packing up – argh!), but we came back and captured this re-play of the demo,” id Software executive producer Marty Stratton explains. “This gameplay is from a PC running Vulkan on a Titan X at 120 FOV – with the player’s personal upgrades and rune perks set for advanced speed and movement capabilities.”

It’s not the greatest comparison, but you can see how well Doom runs on a GTX 1080 in the off-screen footage from Nvidia’s event last Friday below:

If you’re looking for the best possible experience, the GTX 1080 is the way to go… but you’re pretty safe even if you decide to stick with last year’s Titan X.

Doom will be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 13th.
