According to Deadline, David Fincher’s Mindhunter TV series has been in the works for a few years. Six years ago, the show was supposed to hit HBO, with Fincher and Theron producing.

The movie is based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, written by former special agent John Douglas and Mark Olshaker.

During his career, Douglas pursued some of the most notorious serial killers and rapists, developing various profiling techniques to catch them. As Deadline points out, numerous book and TV characters have been based on him, including Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs, Will Graham in Hannibal and Jason Gideon in Criminal Minds.

It’s not known at this time when Mindhunter will premiere, and Netflix declined to comment on the matter.
