If you’re the sort of person who plans on attending the Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere in full cosplay, then you’re also the type of person who will want to make their own homemade light saber to bring to the theater. Happily for you, I Like to Make Stuff has posted a simple guide for creating your own giant replica light saber that involves just a handful of components.

Here is what the website says you will need:

  • Black duct tape
  • Silver spray paint
  • Red spray paint
  • Red LED spotlight / Green LED spotlight
  • Clear corrugated roofing panel
  • 12″ x 4′ cardboard concrete form
  • Scrap 2×4

Getting hold of these components is only half the battle, of course. You’ll then have to cut the carboard into a cylindrical shape to serve as the device’s hilt and similarly shape the clear roofing panel as a cylinder as well. The scrap wood is used as a base that’s located between the hilt and the clear plastic tube that is also where the LED spotlight is installed. All of the other components listed above, such as the spray paint and duct tape, are used for purely decorative purposes.
