Google’s Nest Cam Security Camera is a very cool product, but $200 is a very tall order for a device like this. It’s great, don’t get us wrong, but its feature set is very limited for a home security camera with such a steep asking price. If you have some extra money to burn and you’re looking for a simple setup and ease of use, then the Nest Cam is a terrific option. But if you want to save some cash and you’re looking for some extra features — like the ability to pan and tilt the camera from your smartphone — the you should definitely check out the Hawking Technology HNC5W HawkVision Wireless Universal Smart Cam Pro Video Camera, which is on sale on Amazon through the end of the day on Saturday, August 6.

Here are some highlights:

  • Works with Wireless 802.11 b/g/n
  • Infrared lights provide a clear image in dark environments
  • Live view from your camera using tablets, smartphones, Mac or Windows computers
  • 3x digital zoom captures close up view of your subject from a remote location
  • Pan and Tilt remotely using a computer or smartphone

The Hawking Technology HNC5W HawkVision Wireless Universal Smart Cam Pro Video Camera typically costs about $100, but it’s on sale this week for just $79.97 from Amazon, and that includes free Prime shipping. The only thing to note is that this camera seems to be geared toward more savvy users, and might not be as simple to use as the Nest Cam.
