  • If you’re looking for one of the best pairs of wireless noise cancelling headphones of 2020, we’ve got a fantastic new option for you.
  • The new Shure AONIC 50 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones compete directly with the very best ANC headphones models from Sony and Bose.
  • In our testing, we found that they offer even better sound quality than Bose’s popular QuietComfort 35 headphones.

When most people think of premium wireless noise cancelling headphones, they think of the two most popular models out there. We’re of course talking about Sony’s WH1000XM3 headphones and the QuietComfort 35 headphones by Bose. Those are both fantastic options of course, and they definitely fall squarely into the “premium” category at $350 each. These days, however, audiophiles have a new class of ultra-premium noise cancelling headphones to choose from if they want the best possible sound quality and active noise cancellation.

The new Bose 700 headphones are definitely the most well-known headphones in the new ultra-premium category, offering quality and a design that is a big step up from the QuietComfort 35s. The Master & Dynamic MW65 headphones are right on par with them as well, and they feature an even sleeker design. Now, there’s a hot new option from one of the most recognizable names in personal audio, and these headphones totally blew us away when we tried them.

The Shure AONIC 50 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones are the most impressive new wireless headphones we’ve tried in quite some time. In fact, we would go as far as to say they’re better in every way than the popular Bose QuietComfort 35 headphones that many people consider to be the benchmark for premium ANC headphones.

Shure’s AONIC 50 headphones feature a great design that is comfortable to wear and not too heavy. They are very large, but that’s thanks mainly to the oversized ear cups that pack oversized drivers for incredible sound quality and deep bass. Battery life is right on par with the ultra-premium Bose 700 headphones at up to 20 hours with ANC enabled, and Bluetooth 5 support gives you the best possible connection to your smartphone or any other device.

A free ShurePlus PLAY app lets you easily adjust EQ, noise cancellation, and what Shure calls “Environment Mode,” which is its name for the ambient listening mode common to all premium ANC headphones these days. As for the quality of Shure’s noise cancelling tech, we can assure you that you’ll be as impressed as we were — it’s right up there with Bose and Sony. If you’re in the market for new ultra-premium over-ear headphones, you’d have to be crazy not to add the Shure AONIC 50 headphones to the list of options you’re considering.
