When we look back over this dumpster fire of a year, streaming TV at home was one of the activities that helped most of us stay sane and eke out at least a tiny bit of comfort and enjoyment during 2020, when it seems that pretty much everything in the world was conspiring against that (thanks largely to the coronavirus pandemic). And even now, as I write these words on Christmas morning, millions of people will be gathered around TVs today through this weekend to stream much-anticipated fare, like Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max, Soul on Disney+, and the first product of Shonda Rhimes’ buzzy Bridgerton — the first show she’s produced for Netflix as part of a pact with the streamer.

As we noted yesterday, this is the time of the year when best-of lists start to proliferate — and, indeed, there has been an abundance of lists touting the Best TV Shows of 2020. But just as the quality of what counts as the best is completely subjective, a few lists are also taking a stab at going the opposite route, ranking the worst TV shows that graced our screens over the course of 2020.

The Metacritic scoring system identifies shows with a score of between 40 and 60 as having garnered “mixed or average review,” while TV shows with scores of between 20 and 39 are, well, basically garbage.

To save you some time scrolling, we’ll include what this list identifies as the Top 10 worst shows of the year below.

With the exception of The Politician, the list below refers to Season 1 of all of the following shows:
