These days, it’s not often we get a moment of happy political comedy. Most parodies of White House press briefings tend to end with Melissa McCarthy driving a podium into unsuspecting SNLers, while the rest of us weep for the dead shell of democracy.

So, I’m happy to report that the latest late-night-TV Sean Spicer gag involves no politics at all. Regardless of who you support, there’s something pure and heartwarming about watching Spicey remixed to the Muppet’s legendary “Mahna Mahna” song.

A little while ago, Politico reporter Michael Nussbaum noted that Spicer is a big(ly) fan of the word “phenomenal.” Someone clever on Stephen Colbert’s team noticed that “phenomenal” has the same number of syllables as the “mahna mahna” that comes in the Muppets song, and thus, a meme was born.

Spicer doesn’t seem too mad about the whole thing, as I guess being portrayed as a happy-go-lucky Muppets character is better than a gum-eating Melissa McCarthy. He even tweeted the video out, along with a reminder to give Nussbaum the credit for bringing it up in the first place.
