In order to reveal the full map in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players have to climb Sheikah Towers and activate them with Link’s Sheikah Slate. Most of the 15 towers are uninhabited, but a few have NPCs waiting at the top, such as Ridgeland Tower in the Hyrule Ridge region. When you reach the top of this particular tower, you’ll meet a man who wants to see how far Link can glide with his glider.

Taking him up on his challenge, I managed to glide about 600 meters before my feet touched the ground. I felt like I had made it about as far as I could, so I took my reward and left. As it turns out, I hadn’t even scratched the surface. Over the weekend a Japanese player shared footage of Link gliding over 7,600 meters without ever touching the ground. This incredible journey took the player over 20 minutes to complete:

As you can see in the video above, the player managed to cross about three-fourths of the entire map before landing on Eventide Island in the southeast corner of Hyrule. In order to accomplish this feat, the player used bomb arrows to create an updraft to lift Link higher into the air and Elixirs to restore Link’s stamina.

Of the 366 bomb arrows that the player had on hand at the beginning, “only” 190 were used up by the time they reached Eventide. Had the player taken a more circuitous route, it’s possible that they could have gone even further than 7,615.8 meters. In fact, I have a feeling that other players will try to top this record.
