Mobile World Congress is in full swing in Barcelona, Spain, but that’s not the only tech trade show currently underway. Over in California, there’s a different event that goes by the name of Game Developers Conference. And it’s at GDC 2017 that Nvidia announced a brand new graphics card, one that’s faster than ever, and it still doesn’t break the bank. Meet the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, which is already described as “the fastest gaming GPU ever.”
If you thought the GTX 1080 card launched last year was powerful, then prepare to be blown over by the new GPU in town. According to Nvidia, the GTX 1080 Ti is even faster.
The new card packs 11GB of next-gen GDDR5X memory running at 11Gbps. The GTX 1080 Ti is the first in the world to pack GDDR5X RAM and supports “advanced graphics technologies,” including 4K, VR, Nvidia G-Sync HDR, and Nvidia GameWorks.
The card delivers up to 35% better performance than its predecessor. Compared to the GTX 1070, we’re looking at a 78% speed increase, according to Nvidia. Real-life tests will show us exactly how powerful the new GPU is.
The GTX 1080 Ti will be available worldwide starting on March 10th, starting at $699. Preorders kick off March 2nd.
Sure, that’s slightly more expensive than the GTX 1080, but a lot cheaper than Nvidia Titan X. In fact, Nvidia says that the GTX 1080 Ti is faster than the Titan X Pascal, a GPU it launched last August for $1,200 — admittedly, that card was launched for other purposes than gaming, including deep learning and artificial intelligence.
