President-elect Donald Trump decided it’s best to respond directly to The Green Party’s campaign to recount votes in three swing states. Jill Stein’s camp is almost on the verge of reaching that final $7 million target — a goal that continued to shift upwards since Wednesday — and an official Wisconsin recount has already been confirmed. The Hillary Clinton campaign said it would help out with the recount process.

What did Trump do? He launched a Twitter-based tirade against the entire thing culminating with what might be the biggest lie Trump delivered to date.

DEAL ALERT: The best Black Friday sale of the year is happening right now!

“In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally,” Trump said in a Twitter update on Sunday.

Ironically, in his endeavor to point out that Stein and Clinton shouldn’t even consider recounting votes for what he deems an already settled election, he seems to make a case for the need for a recount. Assuming for a second that what he says is true, that he won the popular vote, then, a recount is certainly needed.

On paper, things look differently. Clinton got more than 2.2 million votes more than Trump, winning the popular vote by a huge margin. That makes Trump’s allegation above even worse.

There’s also one other ironic twist that works against both candidates. Trump already alleged that the election would be rigged against him and that he might not recognize the result. Clinton, meanwhile said that he should

The tables have turned now, and Trump calls for everyone else to accept the result, while Clinton is taking advantage of Stein’s viral crowd-funding campaign to take part in official recounts that might — in an unlikely but theoretically possible scenario — give her the presidency.

So far, only Wisconsin confirmed that a recount is underway. But Stein raised more than $6.2 million so it’s likely that Pennsylvania and Michigan recounts might follow.
