Two years after announcing that it would be working on a new adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Netflix has shared the first full-length trailer for the series, which is set to debut on January 13th, 2017.

Netflix has released two teasers for the show already this fall, but the trailer below is the best look yet at the Baudelaire children, their guardians, the mischievous, dastardly Count Olaf and the narrator/author of the story, Lemony Snicket:

Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) and starring Emmy and Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris, A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death.

The series will consist of eight episodes, with every two episodes covering the story contained within a single book. A Series of Unfortunate Events originally consisted of 13 books, so by the end of this first season, we will reach the conclusion of the fourth book, The Miserable Mill. It’s worth noting that the movie, released back in 2004, only made it through the first three books.

Daniel Handler, the (real) author of the books, will serve as executive producer on the show alongside Barry Sonnenfeld. All eight episodes will be available on January 13th, with another 18 expected to hit Netflix in the future.
