Reports of Sony holding an event this September have been substantiated, as BGR received an invite on Tuesday to a “PlayStation Meeting” on September 7th. We heard rumblings about such an event on Monday, as Gameblog and Vice Gaming both published reports citing sources close to the matter. According to those reports, the event will serve as a “technical showcase” for the “high-end PS4” that Sony announced in June.

As for how much of an improvement the new PS4 (codenamed Neo) will be over its predecessor, we’re going to have to wait to find out, but the most obvious upgrade will be the ability to play games in 4K resolution. Rumors suggest that all new PS4 games will still be compatible with the original console, but will feature a “NEO Mode” to take advantage of the upgraded hardware.
