Who would have thought that a console might actually need games to succeed? Although Nintendo managed to overcome the odds with the Wii, there was no Wii Sports to keep the Wii U afloat. And so it sank, further and further every year, to the point where some gamers have probably forgotten the console exists.

Nintendo isn’t going to let the NX suffer the same fate.

Sources tell MCV that Nintendo will hit the ground running with the NX, bringing Mario, Zelda and an unannounced Pokemon game to the next-gen console “within the first six months of the machine’s life.”

Of these three titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the only one Nintendo has confirmed, but considering how little the Wii U had to offer gamers in its first year of existence, it makes sense that Nintendo would be desperate to give consumers a reason to pick the console up as soon as it hits store shelves.

The sources also claim that Nintendo has been working to ensure that more third-party publishers are on board this time around, with Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision and Warner Bros. already working on NX games.

Furthermore, MCV’s sources say that the report about the NX being a portable console that you can plug into your TV is “100 per cent accurate.” As for the graphics, we should expect “somewhere between a PS3 and PS4.”

“It’s a nice bit of kit, a bit of a novelty, but a good one,” an executive who saw the NX told MCV. “It won’t appeal to PS4 fans. Nintendo seems set on trying to upgrade smartphone gamers. That’s going to be a big job for the marketing department.”

Nintendo’s NX console is set to launch in March 2017.
