Did you know that your Facebook Messenger app has a secret inbox that, at this very moment, is probably full of messages you had no idea you received? No, of course you didn’t, because then it wouldn’t be a secret. Well it turns out that Facebook filters some messages you receive by default, and there’s pretty much no indication that the filtered messages have are there unless you know exactly where to look.

It’s not obvious and you won’t find it on your own, but don’t worry because we’ll tell you exactly how to find it and see all the messages you’ve missed.

As noted by Cosmo UK, the Facebook Messenger app is hiding a secret inbox full of filtered messages deep inside the settings section of the app. Like the spam folder on your email account, this special inbox is home to messages Facebook thinks are likely unwanted. The problem, of course, is that they’re not always unwanted.

Facebook might never have told you about these filtered messages, but we’ll show you how to find out what you’re missing.

  • Open the Facebook Messenger app and tap on the settings icon in the bottom-right corner
  • Under People, tap Message Requests
  • Tap the link that says “See filtered requests”

Here’s a screenshot that shows what this hidden section looks like:

You’ll probably find messages in there that date back years, and most of it will indeed be junk. As Cosmo notes though, there may very well be messages in there that you wish you had received, so it’s a good idea to check it out from time to time.
