We’re eagerly waiting for the iPhone 7 to come out in September, but Apple is already working on a brand new iPhone model that might see the light of day as soon as next year. The rumored device would be available in a different size than current iPhone models, and it will pack an AMOLED screen rather than LCD.

DON’T MISS: Galaxy S7 review roundup: Samsung has made a masterpiece

Picking up a pre-publication note from Digitimes, The Motley Fool reports that the AMOLED iPhone would be launched either in 2017 or in 2018, suggesting that either the iPhone 7s or the iPhone 8 could be the first one to get an AMOLED screen like the ones found on the Galaxy S7 and many other Android handsets.

Samsung Display would be the first candidate to supply Apple with the screens, with LG Display and Japan Display purportedly set to join the supply chain later down the road. This report is in line with previous unconfirmed rumors that Apple is going to hire these companies to provide AMOLED displays for the iPhone.

In the first year of availability, some 50 million iPhones with AMOLED screens will be manufactured, the note says.

If true, this seems to suggest that Apple is looking to vary its iPhone lineup even further. A few earlier reports indicated that Apple could begin this trend in 2016 when one version of the iPhone 7 Plus may get a better camera than the iPhone 7 and other iPhone 7 Plus models – namely, a dual camera setup on the back. This model could be sold as the iPhone Pro, according to rumors.
