Google Maps just keeps getting better and better. The latest update of the app for iOS adds a terrific new trick in the form of real-time spoken traffic alerts that will let you know about traffic jams and accidents as you’re driving. This feature will pop up automatically whenever you’re using the Navigation feature to give you spoken turn-by-turn directions.

This is just one of many cool features that Google has added to Google Maps for iOS this year alone. Others include the ability to send locations you find on your browser to your phone, improved public transit directions for navigating cities, and the ability to see where you’re going before you leave with a Street View thumbnail on the map.

In addition to adding spoken traffic alerts, Google also says the newest update lets you “easily add new and missing businesses from the sidebar.” If you want to install the update for yourself, check out the Google Maps page on the iTunes App Store.
