We’re in the home stretch now.
On Sunday morning, Lucasfilm shared the theatrical poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the official Star Wars website, simultaneously confirming that a new trailer will debut on Monday night, as many had expected.
Here’s a high quality image of the poster, filled with tantalizing hints:
You might notice that Han Solo, Princess Leia, C-3PO, Chewbacca and R2-D2 were all given prime real estate on the poster, but Luke didn’t make the cut. If I were to take a stab at the explanation, I’d say that the team intentionally left the hero of the original trilogy out because they want to make a statement about the new generation taking his place.
Or maybe someone on the art team just got distracted.
We also get a glimpse at something that looks suspiciously like a Death Star in the upper right-hand corner of the poster. And if that’s a laser poking out of the center of the structure, everyone should consider hiding their home planets.
Along with the poster, StarWars.com also announced that “an exclusive new look at the film” will air during Monday Night Football on ESPN tomorrow night. If you’d rather not watch the Giants-Eagles game though, I’m all but certain the trailer will make its way to the Star Wars YouTube channel before the night’s over.
And finally, we now have confirmation that tickets will go on sale this Monday. If you plan on seeing the movie in theaters, it might not be a bad idea to preorder tickets. Some theaters are also hosting a Star Wars Marathon Event, in which all six films will play in order, leading up to the midnight release of The Force Awakens.
Quite a week for Star Wars fans.
