The impact of the 2011 nuclear disaster at Fukushima is still being felt and a new photograph that’s going viral on the Internet this week is a reminder of just how damaging such catastrophes can be. Per Business Insider, a photograph taken this past May and posted on the Twitter account of @san_kaido purportedly shows daises near the disaster site that are wildly deformed, as you can see in the picture above.
Of course, it’s entirely possible that these flowers have been Photoshopped, although the Twitter user behind them didn’t go out of his way to send them to news organizations or post them on Reddit — it’s only months after the picture was taken that it’s started to go viral. And of course we’ve seen several photographs of other mutant plants taken near Fukushima, so the idea that there are mutant daisies sprouting up isn’t something that’s at all outlandish.
That said, we won’t really start freaking out about mutations caused by the Fukushima disaster until we start seeing animals mutate into Deathclaws or other critters from Fallout 4.
