Last year’s OnePlus One was one of the year’s killer smartphone bargains, a device that delivered premium specs at a discount price. GizmoChina directs our attention to a new report over at Chinese website MyDrivers that claims the upcoming OnePlus 2 phone will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera and will cost just 元1,999 ($USD 322).

This is still just a rumor, of course, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see given the pricing that the OnePlus One sold for last year. For those of you who don’t remember, last year’s device sold for roughly USD$300 and came with 3GB of RAM and a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 chipset. Vendors like OnePlus, Xiaomi and Micromax have all shaken up the Android market to various degrees by offering phones with high-end hardware well below the prices that HTC, Samsung and LG have been giving their premium products.

Earlier leaks posted by GizmoChina have claimed that the OnePlus 2 will feature “a laser focus fingerprint identification embedded in the home button.” We really have no idea what benefits a “laser focus” fingerprint scanner has over traditional fingerprint scanners and GizmoChina sadly didn’t elaborate much on it and why OnePlus is including it. Nonetheless, the new OnePlus phone is definitely something we’re looking forward to seeing when it launches later this year.
