We’ve seen plenty of drop tests for smartphones, but what about for popular laptops? Via 9to5Mac, one unlucky MacBook Air owner recently had his laptop subjected to an unintentional drop test when it fell out of a plane and plunged 1,000 feet to the ground at an estimated speed of 125 miles per hour.

The owner, a pilot from South Africa who posted about his experiences on Reddit, says his MacBook Air “fell out of my plane because the canopy popped open” but somehow survived the crash and is “still functional although the cooling system is damaged and the glass on the trackpad is starting to fall out.”

As you can see in the Imgur gallery of the MacBook Air below, it’s definitely not in great shape, although it amazingly still does turn on.

That said, the pilot seems to have lucked out since the laptop was likely cushioned a bit by the bag it was in and because it landed on fairly soft farmland and not, say, a sidewalk. Put another way, we would 100% not recommend dropping a MacBook Air from a plane yourself unless you have another one lying around that you can use as a backup.
