In case you haven’t noticed, a lot of people are very excited about the iPhone 6. In fact, the level of hype surrounding Apple’s two new flagship phones is so strong that it could put all previous iPhone launches to shame.

Wall Street Journal reporter Ryan Knutson chimes in via Twitter to note that AT&T on Friday said that “demand for Apple’s iPhone 6 is already greater than the last two years,” which seems pretty impressive considering that last year Apple smashed its records for opening weekend sales with the launch of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

Last year, Apple sold a whopping 9 million combined iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models over its release weekend, which at the time Apple touted as its biggest iPhone launch yet. But as good as those numbers are, it’s not surprising to learn that demand for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus is already off the charts — after all, these are the largest iPhones yet released and they should help attract new buyers who previously didn’t want to pick up an iPhone because they didn’t like its smaller display size.

We’ll know for sure just how big of a hit the iPhone 6 is once Apple releases opening weekend sales numbers in the days following the device’s launch on September 19th.
