SyFy’s Battlestar Galactica, which itself was a gritty re-imagining of a campy 1970s TV show of the same name, was one of the best science fiction TV shows of the last decade. And now apparently it’s getting re-imagined yet again, as Variety reports that Universal is planning to start a film franchise based on the show that will feature a new writing team from the one that made BSG a hit during its run from 2004 through 2009. Variety says that screenwriter Jack Paglen, who is the screenwriter for upcoming sci-fi films Transcendence and the sequel to Prometheus, has signed on to write the re-re-imagined BSG. Variety doesn’t give us any information on the film’s casting or its release date, so it’s very likely that the new BSG is still quite a ways off.
