Among Android smartphones, Google’s upcoming Nexus 5 will be the best gaming phone in the world if and when it finally launches. Factor in other mobile platforms, however, and Apple’s new iPhone 5s still wears the crown. According to Rightware’s Power Board database, which compiles benchmark test scores and compares them, Google’s unannounced Nexus 5 scores an incredibly impressive 14.27 on the Basemark X gaming graphics performance test. The next closest widely available Android handset is Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4, which scores an 8.20. In fact, the only handset on the planet that racked up a better score is the aforementioned iPhone 5s, which managed a 15.54 for the top rank in the world.

Google’s Nexus 5 is shaping up to be an absolute beast, with specs highlighted by a 4.95-inch full HD display, a quad-core 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an 8-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, 16GB or 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat. But even though Apple’s iPhone 5s only packs a dual-core processor and other seemingly tame specs, it still manages to slaughter every other smartphone on the planet in most key performance tests.

As for Google’s Nexus 5, the impressive (and shockingly affordable) smartphone is expected to debut on Friday.
