The Droid brand is largely responsible for Android’s success in the United States. Verizon’s massive marketing budget and large subscriber pool helped Google’s operating system reach new heights with the release of the Motorola Droid, Droid X and Droid RAZR, among others. Following Google’s acquisition of Motorola, and with HTC and Samsung pushing their own brands, the number of Droid-branded devices has dramatically decreased over the past few years. But the latest rumors suggest that Motorola and Verizon have teamed up once again on three new smartphones — the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid mini. Are these the Droids we’ve all been waiting for? Verizon’s Droid press conference is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. EDT, 9:00 a.m. PDT, and BGR’s live coverage follows below.
