Research In Motion’s (RIMM) BlackBerry services are currently suffering a major outage across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, The Wall Street Journal reports. The cause of the outage is not immediately clear, however it first occurred in the early morning hours and BlackBerry services in some regions were still unavailable several hours later. RIM confirmed in a statement that it is “currently experiencing a BlackBerry service issue impacting some users in Europe, Middle East & Africa.” The statement continued, “All relevant support teams are working to resolve the issue. We apologize to any customers who may be affected.” RIM has since reported that services have been restored and that approximately 6% of its subscriber base was affected, or roughly 4.8 million users.

Updated following confirmation that service has been restored, and to clarify the number of users affected by the outage.
