And here people thought that a 19-pin iPhone dock connector would be a drastic change. According to the latest rumors posted at iLounge, Apple (AAPL) is poised to shrink the dock connector for its new iPhone down even further to just eight pins, and it may feature a design similar to Apple’s MagSafe connectors. iLounge speculates that rumors of Apple producing a 10-pin or 16-pin dock connector have to do with the adapter devices that Apple will design to connect new eight-pin iPhones to older 30-pin equipment, “specifically the female side that connects to and adapts the prior 30 pins.” iLounge also writes that Apple may be working on a new iOS 6 feature that acts as a bridge for Bluetooth 4.0 devices and will theoretically  allow “a future iPod nano to display iMessages received by an iPhone, record voice memos that could be shared via the iPhone, and even initiate phone calls through its own headphones.”
