Seems like an unlikely pairing, but rumors are now circulating that Amazon is now bidding to provide online retail services in conjunction with Myspace Music. Myspace announced their music service earlier this year, with plans to provide music from Sony BMG, Universal, and Warner. They plan to offer both ad-supported free streaming as well as pay-per-song downloads, and may be tapping Amazon to utilize their existing expertise and back-end infrastructure in the download arena. Whether a partnership like this would grant Myspace access to Amazons music library is unclear, but if that did come as part of the deal it would go a long way towards quieting concerns that Myspace’s initial label deals were too narrow in their scope.
