Apple gearing up for online movie rental service?

We’ve heard rumblings of this one before, so we won’t hold our breath until we have something tangible in front of us, but word on the street is that Apple has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to bring movie rentals to desktops everywhere. According to Mac Rumors, Apple and Fox have already inked the paper that will allow consumers to rent Fox movies for a specified period of time by way of iTunes. There’s no word on rental period of price, but we think they’d have to slide in around the $3-5 mark to win us over. The service will apparently be launched and announced on the 15th of January, coinciding with a certain annual Apple convention known as “Macworld”.
