It’s becoming an age-old debate: File sharing…good or bad? The music industry hates it. Users love it. And now, Telefonica has the users’ collective back. When accused by music producers that its services were being used to file share via Kazaa, and a subsequent complaint was filed, those same music producers demanded the names of subscribers and their IP addresses. Telefonica said no. It was taken to court and ruled that the ISP was not required to release anything unless there were truly criminal circumstances and proceedings. Score one for the end-user.
