Verizon broadband customers will soon have another weapon in the global fight against terror email spam. The company’s ISP division will be offering “CertifiedEmail” to combat phishing scams, as well as tradition spam messages. The service has been developed in conjunction with enterprise email provider Good. The system essentially identifies mail that originates from known commercial volume spammers, flags it, and quarantines it. The list of known spammers/phishers is continuously updated, providing a relatively up to date database of potential problem messages. Who knows how well this will ultimately work, but it’s nice to see an ISP partnering with an established 3rd party to try and address what can only be described as an epidemic of nefarious email.
