40% of European smartphone buyers intend to buy an iPhone next

Yankee Group is set to release its European Mobile User Study next month and the research firm has just provided a quick glimpse into its early findings. Reportedly, 40% of European smartphone buyers plan to purchase an iPhone as their next device. 19% plan to purchase an Android powered device, 17% have their eye on a BlackBerry, and 15% plan to buy a Nokia smartphone. “These findings highlight the continued strength of Apple in the European smartphone market and, in particular, its phenomenal brand appeal,” Yankee Group research vice president, Declan Lonergan, said. “The data also highlights the enormous challenges faced by Nokia and RIM to retain mind share and market share in this increasingly dynamic and competitive marketplace.” In addition, the firm found that employees argued they are 58% more productive while on long-distance travel trips when they have a tablet in tow. Yankee Group also argues that consumerization is taking over the workplace and that four times more employees are now using tools designed for the consumer market for work purposes — with IT’s approval, of course. The survey involved 5,000 consumers, 2,250 employees and “IT decision makers” in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Read on for the full press release. More →

Yankee Group: eReader business to hit $8 billion by 2014

Do you feel special sitting at Starbucks with your venti, iced carmel macchiato (skim milk, two pumps, no whipped cream), wearing that fedora, and palming your eReader? If you do enjoy that sort of thing, you might want to wipe that smug grin off of your face, because according to research from the Yankee Group, eReaders are going to be a lot more common in the coming years. Analytics company Yankee Group estimates that 11 million eReaders were sold in 2010, generating a respectable $1.9 billion in revenue. What’s even more impressive is the analytics company predicts that sales will boom to 72 million units by 2014 generating revenues of around $8.2 billion. What will you do to establish non-mainstream street cred while at Starbucks? We’re not sure, but eReaders are so trendy now. More →

Yankee Group: 73% of iPhone users are happy with AT&T

Yankee Group: 73% of iPhone users are happy with AT&T

According to a survey by Yankee Group, 73% of iPhone users surveyed are very satisfied with AT&T’s service. This figure seemingly contradicts the perception that AT&T’s network is struggling to handle the load of this data hungry device and is in direct opposition to comments by many iPhone users who are seemingly unhappy with AT&T’s service. Yankee Group attributes this discrepancy to a “halo effect” in which iPhone owners are so drunk with happiness over their handset that they perceive AT&T in a positive light. AT&T explains this away by stating their network issues stem from a perception problem, not a service problem and claims that its network is actually better than most people think. iPhone owners on AT&T, now is your chance to respond. Hit us up in the comments and let us know what you think about AT&T, your iPhone, and this survey. More →
