Samsung is already advertising its free gifts that will be available to Galaxy S5 buyers.  Worth almost $600, these gifts include free subscriptions to certain services and access to premium apps – or essentially free bloatware that should convince consumers to buy the new handset. Sony’s next flagship smartphone is here: meet the Xperia Z2

We might have already seen every square inch of the device over the past few weeks, but Sony finally made it official — the Xperia Z2 will be the company’s next flagship phone. As previously reported, the Xperia Z2 will feature a 1080p 5.2-inch display, 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 3,200 mAh battery and a 20.7-megapixel camera. The new flagship will also offer 4K video recording, digital noise-cancelling, and as with its predecessor, the Xperia Z2 is waterproof. As for software, the smartphone will include apps that connect users with the music, video and gaming services of the Sony Entertainment Network. 12-minute video reveals what could be Sony’s next flagship phone

Late last week we finally saw what appears to be the next hero phone from Sony in video form. Rimas Flyil, the YouTube leaker who posted the video, has now resurfaced with even more footage of the Xperia “Sirius” D6503. In the first clip, we saw some of the KitKat-skinned smartphone’s features, from the Walkman functionality to the quick-start camera. In the new video, we get a much better look at the actual hardware, along with an extensive showcase of the software. More →

Sony’s answer to the Galaxy S5 shown again in leaked pics

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 will obviously garner most of the attention at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona but Sony is also launching a flagship device at the show that could be an under-the-radar hit. Some leaked pictures posted on Chinese website Digi-Wo show both the black and white versions of the Xperia Z2 smartphone that Sony will be unveiling at MWC this month. Specs for the Xperia Z2 are tipped to include a quad-core Snapdragon 2.3GHz processor that supports 4K video playback via HDMI-out, a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat. A video surfaced on YouTube purportedly showing the Xperia Sirius D6503, an unreleased smartphone believed to be the Xperia Z2 flagship, which could be unveiled in the near future, maybe as soon as MWC 2014. The short clip, discovered by Xperia Blog, shows what Sony has built on top of KitKat. Sony is reportedly sending press invites for a special media event that will take place on February 24 at MWC 2014, the first official day of the mobile trade show, Xperia Blog reports. On the same day, Samsung will hold its first major mobile event of the year, the first episode of Unpacked 5, where it’ll unveil its first flagship handset of the year. Blurry images of an unannounced Sony smartphone have leaked. We have no idea what smartphone it might be.
