Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in August

Sony Ericsson confirmed in a blog post on Monday that its developers have been working hard on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Xperia X10, and that the roll-out will begin in early August. The company confirmed that it will keep the original camera UI as found in the Eclair version of the phone, and that the Facebook Inside Xperia functionality in the newest Xperia family of phones will be available on the X10 as well. Unfortunately, SE  said that it will not add DLNA support to the X10, as adding that would “jeopardize the time schedule.” Generic trade phones will get the Gingebread upgrade, which was announced in March, but Sony Ericsson did note that “some of you will not be able to upgrade your customized version of Xperia X10.” In other words, we seriously doubt AT&T users will ever get it. AT&T’s Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 finally gets Android 2.1 (Eclair) update

AT&T’s Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 finally gets Android 2.1 (Eclair) update

Countless Android fans complain about new phones still launching with Froyo while Gingerbread has long since been pulled out of the oven, but Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 owners on AT&T can only dream of frozen desserts. Sony Ericsson on Tuesday announced that the Android-powered Xperia that started it all will finally be updated from Android 1.6 — yes, that’s Donut — to Android 2.1, Eclair. Obvious annoyances aside, it’s quite clear that AT&T and Sony Ericsson had some major issues while getting this update ready for primetime, so we suppose X10 owners should be happy the companies didn’t just give up. New features introduced by the Android 2.1 update include 720p HD video capture support, continuous auto-focus and face detection in video capture, multitouch support and five home screens instead of three. Eclair is available for the Xperia X10 beginning Tuesday, May 31st, and it can be accessed by visiting sonyericsson.com/attupdate on a PC. More →

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread update

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread update

Sony Ericsson announced on its blog that it will update unbranded versions of the Xperia X10 to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) in the second or third quarter of this year. That’s a pretty stunning announcement, considering Sony Ericsson had said earlier that it had no plans to update the Xperia X10 beyond Android 2.1 (Eclair). The company says it will alert customers at a later point in time if it ever plans to roll-out the update to carrier-branded Xperia X10 devices, but we seriously doubt it’ll ever hit the AT&T Xperia X10. Hit the jump for a list of some changes users will see when the Gingerbread update rolls out. More →

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro get Android 2.1 on Sunday

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro get Android 2.1 on Sunday

As Google prepares to release a fresh new version of Android, Sony Ericsson has announced that it will finally push out an OS update for three of its smartphones… to Android 2.1. No, the Xperia X10 family won’t be gobbling down Gingerbread any time soon, or even feasting on FroYo. Instead, the Xperia X10, Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 mini pro will all be stuck eating Eclair beginning Sunday, October 31st. Oh and if you have an AT&T-branded X10, you’ll have to wait until some time in November for the update. Sony Ericsson has delayed this Android 2.1 upgrade several times and now that it’s almost here, it seems like way too little, way too late. As for when the X10 crew might see a more modern build of the Android OS, don’t hold your breath. Hit the jump for a rundown of changes X10 users can expect starting this weekend. More →

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 rumored to launch on Rogers within two weeks

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 rumored to launch on Rogers within two weeks

se-xperia-x10

Although interest in it seems to have declined, thanks to this week’s official confirmation that multitouch will never be a feature of the device due to a hardware limitation, that’s hardly going to stop Rogers from aggressively pushing the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10. According to MobileSyrup, a site that has a pretty squeaky clean track record, Rogers has narrowed down the release window for the Android smartphone to the week of April 7th to 14th and assigned tentative pricing — which could be as low as $149.99 on contract. Rogers had previously stated it would offer pre-orders, something which has yet to happen, but with a release that is potentially within six days we’d think they better get a move on it before peoeple’s eyes start to wander elsewhere.
