Following the release of Apple’s white iPhone 4 last week, preliminary reports suggested that a slightly thicker case was among the differences between the new white model and the older black iPhone 4 model. According to Apple’s SVP of Product Marketing and to Consumer Reports, however, the white model should be the same thickness as the black version. On Sunday, Apple’s Phil Schiller was quoted by Apple enthusiast blog 9to5 Mac as saying “[The white iPhone 4] is not thicker, don’t believe all the junk that you read,” in a private response to an inquiry on Twitter. Then on Monday, Consumer Reports took a set of calipers to both the white and black iPhone 4 models and found them to be the exact same thickness: 0.37 inches. Of course we’ve all seen images of a white iPhone 4 lined up next to a black model and the difference in thickness is quite apparent — we’ve even verified that one of our own white iPhone 4 models is thicker than its black counterpart. According to Schiller and these new measurements taken by Consumer Reports, however, it looks like we can chalk up the differences to Apple’s increasingly poor quality control rather than an amended design. Look, there’s not too much to say here… you’re looking at an Apple iPhone 4 in white, instead of black. Yes, it’s an amazingly beautiful white handset — probably the cleanest we’ve ever seen — yes, it’s not available until tomorrow, and yes, people in Hong Kong are already lining up for it right now. But we’re just happy we can finally put all this madness behind us… after you check out our exclusive hands-on gallery, of course!
Apple on Wednesday finally announced that it will launch the white version of its popular iPhone 4 smartphone tomorrow, April 28th. Apple made it known earlier this year that the white model would finally launch this spring, though the company did not provide a firm release date until today. “The white iPhone 4 has finally arrived and it’s beautiful,” Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller said in a statement. “We appreciate everyone who has waited patiently while we’ve worked to get every detail right.” Specs and pricing for the white model line up exactly with existing models — $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version, both on contract, and the phones will be available online as well as at Apple Stores, AT&T stores, Verizon Wireless stores and select Apple retailers nationwide. Keeping up with the white iPhone 4 saga over the past few months? Well, you’ll be happy it’s all coming to a close this Wednesday. With that said, if you’re completely strung out and waiting for a white iPhone 4 32GB unit, you might be in for a rough come down. We have got a hold of an internal AT&T UPS shipping invoice which clearly details that 20 white iPhone 4 16GB devices are destined for a specific AT&T store. Unfortunately, there are no 32GB units that are incoming. So sad.
BGR has just obtained screenshots of Best Buy’s internal inventory system that display information surrounding the upcoming debut of Apple’s white iPhone 4. Beyond reaffirming the launch this Wednesday, April 27th, these shots also confirm that Best Buy will be selling both the AT&T and Verizon Wireless version of Apple’s white handset. Hit the comments section and let us know who’s lining up on Wednesday morning, and don’t forget to check out our screenshot gallery, alright?
We’d already heard mumblings that the white iPhone 4 would launch on the 27th, and now leaked photos of Best Buy’s internal stocking systems are solidifying those rumors. While the above screenshot only says “AT&T hardware,” 9to5 Mac suggests that Verizon Wireless’ CDMA version of the phone will also be available on the same day. Store are already stocking the devices for Wednesday’s launch, but there could be as few as ten 16GB and 32GB models per Best Buy location. Additionally, it’s being reported elsewhere that Apple stores have received promotional materials featuring the white iPhone 4, and should be receiving stock starting tomorrow. Hit the jump for another inventory shot. More →
That’s right, you’re looking at photos of an iPhone prototype with T-Mobile USA 3G bands. The actual internal model is N94, and if you remember, the Verizon model is N92 while the standard GSM variant is N90. We have verified that the phone itself is running a test version of Apple’s iOS, much like the one we saw in those videos from Vietnam, and it includes internal Apple test apps like Radar and Apple’s employee directory app. Additionally, the front of the white iPhone pictured looks a little different from the photos of the retail white iPhone 4 that surfaced recently — specifically, the proximity sensor has changed on the retail version. Combined with the fact that it wouldn’t make sense to release an iPhone 4 on T-Mobile at this point in time, we’d wager that Apple is just testing the new T-Mobile-friendly radio with its current iPhone 4 hardware, possibly in preparation for integration in a future device. It’s also entirely possible the internals on this iPhone prototype are being disguised in an iPhone 4 shell, though we doubt it. Let’s see what happens with the iPhone 5 and if that makes it way to T-Mobile. If that AT&T acquisition gets approved though, the iPhone will eventually make its way to T-Mobile customers regardless.
9to5 Mac is reporting, from their Macs, that Apple’s mythical white iPhone 4 is set to launch on April 27th according to a internal screenshot they have received. Bloomberg reported last Wednesday that Apple’s white iPhone 4 variant would be in stores “in the next few weeks,” and this certainly supports that claim. Apple’s Phil Schiller said in March that the white iPhone would launch this spring, so the wait definitely shouldn’t be much longer. More →
According to a hidden page on ThreeUK’s website spotted by 9to5 Mac, the white iPhone 4 could be delivered to some customers as soon as this Wednesday, April 20th. Apple has failed to launch the white version of the iPhone 4 in the 10 months since it made the official announcement, but earlier this year the Cupertino based company confirmed that it would launch the new hue this spring — after which floods of information about the device’s launch date began to spill. In March, an analyst suggested that Apple would begin shipping the device in April. Just last week, sources confirmed to Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal that the launch was imminent and would likely occur in the coming weeks. If you’ve been holding off for a white iPhone, it looks like your wait is coming to an end. More →
Apple has confirmed that the white iPhone 4 will be available this spring to The Wall Street Journal, adding onto Bloomberg‘s report from yesterday. We’re expecting it to be available from both AT&T and Verizon Wireless, and it should help hold over any iPhone-interested buyers until the iPhone 5 is released in the fall. More →
According to Bloomberg, Apple will launch the long awaited white version of its iPhone 4 sometime during the “next few weeks.” Apple has failed to produce a white version in the 10 months since it’s original announcement, although the new hue will be available on both Verizon Wireless and AT&T. This information appears to be in-line with earlier analyst predictions that Apple would release the device in April. More →
Following our report earlier this week, BGR has learned that AT&T removed references to the white iPhone 4 from its online account management tool (OLAM) on Thursday. The pale phone had appeared in a drop down menu accessible from AT&T’s customer profile editor. But evidence that a white iPhone 4 will soon launch continues to mount. Apple enthusiast blog 9 to 5 Mac points out that images of a white iPhone have recently appeared on Apple’s Australian website as well as its German site, before being removed. According to earlier unconfirmed reports, the white iPhone 4 may finally become available toward the end of February. More →
