HTC to address camcorder audio problems on ThunderBolt

HTC has reportedly confirmed a pesky bug impacting the audio on video recordings captured with Verizon Wireless’ new HTC ThunderBolt smartphone. The bug, according to several ThunderBolt owners who have taken to forums to discuss the issue, causes the audio to be muffled on video files captured using the device’s camcorder function. The bug is intermittent, so only some video recordings are affected. According to enthusiast blog Android Central, HTC has acknowledged the issue and has stated that a fix is currently in the works. In the meantime, third-party video recorders are seemingly unaffected by the bug, so there are several alternatives that can be used until HTC releases its fix. More →

Sony Ericsson Xperia X12 (Anzu) revealed in leaked image

An unannounced Sony Ericsson was revealed last night when a leaked image of the Xperia X12, codenamed Anzu, was posted on an enthusiast blog. The image shows a device resembling the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 running a modified build of the Android 2.1 operating system. Little is known about the unreleased smartphone for the time being, though rumors give it a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, an HDMI-out port, HD video recording capability and a very slim candy bar form factor. It is also said that when the device finally does launch some time in the first quarter of 2011, it will be running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) rather than the already outdated Eclair build seen in the leaked image. Hit the jump for a few more images of the X12.

Leaked Windows Phone 7 smartphone from HTC: 4.5" Super AMOLED display and 1.5GHz processor

htc-hd3-windows-phone-7

As with any leak, we suggest you approach this with a healthy amount of skepticism, but if a post made to PConline is to be believed, this upcoming Windows Phone 7 handset from HTC — the HD3 — is going to be an absolute beast. We mean, take a look at the purported specs:

  • 4.5″ WXGA Super AMOLED multi-touch display
  • 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash
  • 720p HD video recording
  • 1080p HD playback
  • Wi-Fi / Bluetooth
  • 3G / 4G connectivity
  • 32GB microSD support
  • 1GB RAM / 1GB ROM
  • 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor
  • 1800 mAh battery
  • 115mm x 65mm x 10mm

Like we said, this is strictly a rumor, but how great would it be if it all came true?

DROID Incredible to receive 720p recording and mobile hotspot app in future update?

DROID Incredible to receive 720p recording and mobile hotspot app in future update?

HTC-Droid-Incredible-13

A rumor fresh out of Droid-Life suggests that Verizon Wireless has an update slated for the DROID Incredible that will add 720p video recording and mobile hotspot functionality to the Android handset. As an added bonus, the update reportedly includes the signature DROID red eye boot animation which adds some eye candy (pun intended) to the handset. These two enhancements, and the extra bling, will narrow the gap between the Incredible and the DROID X, making your Android handset buying decision that much more difficult. No word on when the update will drop, but HTC would be wise to push Verizon to release it prior to July 15th. DROIIIIIID! More →

Nexus One hacked to support 720p video recording

Google-Nexus-One-4

The Nexus One’s inability to record videos in HD has always been a bit of annoyance, but thanks to a member of the xda-developers community, 720p video recording is now a go on the one true Google Phone. To get the mod to work you’ll need to be running Cyanogen’s CM5.0.8test3 and up. This means that for the time being Froyo is not supported, but a remedy for the lack of love for 2.2 is said to be coming soon. Click on through to check out a video shot by a Nexus One running the mod and then hit up the read link to grab the patch.

Apple planning to bring video-recording to the iPhone?

By on February 2, 2009 at 4:06 PM.

Apple planning to bring video-recording to the iPhone?

From the time it was released until today, one of the many gripes about the iPhone is its lack of video-recording capabilities (and MMS and copy/paste, we know). For the time being, only those who jailbreak their iPhones can enjoy video recording with apps like Cycorder. While nothing has been confirmed yet, it would appear as though those iPhone patents that set the Internet on fire just a week ago reveal details that could hint at video for the iPhone. Alexander Wolfe of InformationWeek did a bit of digging into Apple’s patent documentation and has come up with some pretty interesting data that everyone else (including those who have done some serious analysis of Apple’s patents) seem to have missed. The patent states:

“The device supports a variety of applications, such as one or more of the following: a telephone application, a video conferencing application, an e-mail application, an instant messaging application, a blogging application, a photo management application, a digital camera application, a digital video camera application, a Web browsing application, a digital music player application, and/or a digital video player application.”

Does this mean that Apple is planning on bringing video to the next generation iPhone? Maybe. Or maybe it could be covering all their bases, just in case. One can hope, right? What the patent also reveals is that video-conferencing could be in store for the future as well:

“In some embodiments, the functions may include telephoning, video conferencing, e-mailing, instant messaging, blogging, digital photographing, digital videoing, Web browsing, digital music playing, and/or digital video playing. Instructions for performing these functions may be included in a computer-readable storage medium or other computer program product configured for execution by one or more processors.”

Right now, all anyone can do is speculate. The patent does show signs of potential for video-recording, video-conferencing and a host of other cool features; whether or not these features will actually come to fruition remains to be seen. We’ll just have to hope Apple doesn’t plan to sit on these patents and twiddle its thumbs.

Tony Hawk Sidekick LX LE launches in July, adds video recording, other features

So, you’re on the edge of seat waiting for this fabled Tony Hawk Sidekick LX to launch, huh? Good news for you then, because we just got the full scoop on it! The device will be “previewed” starting tomorrow but won’t go on sale until mid July. Beginning tomorrow, however, you’ll start to see it on Sidekick.com and “all over the news media.” The phone supposedly has a “skateboard look and feel with a grip-tape-texture and his well known hawk graphic.” Here’s where it gets interesting for all you Sidekick lovers, though — the device will ship with video recording capability, something called play and share (obviously sharing the recorded videos), stereo Bluetooth support, easier downloads and more themes and background personalization options. This summer, all Sidekick LX customers will get that OTA and be in video heaven.
