Apple and Verizon remove the word AT&T from the Verizon iPhone?

After using the Verizon iPhone for a few weeks, something finally hit me. I have had an AT&T iPhone since the original launched, and was accustomed to typing “att” and getting a suggestion from autotext for “AT&T”. Except, this does not work on the Verizon iPhone. It’s funny because the word “Verizon” is in the AT&T iPhone’s autotext dictionary. Anyone else finding the same thing out there?

iPhone 3G performance with iOS 4.2: much improved

iPhone 3G owners have had a rough time lately. First, they missed out on some of the best new features iOS 4 had to offer. Then, the watered down version of iOS 4 they finally got their hands on slowed performance to a near-crawl in most cases. But don’t worry, iPhone 3G owners, some long overdue good news is finally coming your way… iOS 4.2 will bring much needed performance improvements when it finally reaches consumers. Using the Gold Master build of the software, TiPb was nice enough to give us all an early taste of the new OS version on video. As you can see very clearly, the phone shows marked improvements compared to the latest public OS build. In fact, it’s almost on par with iOS 3 on the iPhone 3G. Hit the jump for the full video and if you’re an iPhone 3G owner, get ready to breathe a sigh of relief. More →

Woman uses Galaxy S, SWYPE to break text messaging world record

A U.K. woman armed with a Samsung Galaxy S running the SWYPE keyboard has broken the Guinness World Record for text messaging. The 27-year old managed to swipe out the phrase: “the razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human,” in just under 26 seconds. The time bests the official record, held by a 24-year old American, by over nine seconds. As the Press Association reports, “Ms Thompson, who works for an insurance company, was shopping with her boyfriend, Chris Davies, 23, when they visited a Samsung roadshow and she was invited to have a go at breaking the record.” The woman’s feat has yet to be made official by the Guinness Book of World Records.
