Meet ‘The Nest': Cross-platform, multi-app Twitter sync done right

When it comes to Twitter, we’re just as addicted as every other poor soul who got sucked in. We’re constantly connected on our phones and computers, always checking our timelines, and we crouch in a corner and cry every time the fail whale rears its ugly head. As addictive as the service is though, Twitter is often asleep at the wheel when it comes to features. Luckily, that’s where third-party developers come into play and when it comes to Twitter apps, there are now thousands of choices across every platform imaginable. Even once you’ve found your Twitter apps of choice, however, one of the most annoying things about being addicted to Twitter is constantly seeing the same tweets as you move back and forth between your phone, PC tablet and other devices. What’s more, when you make changes to your mobile client — say, adding a new list column — you have to make the same changes all over again in your other clients. But what if there was a better way? Twitter suspends UberTwitter, twitdroyd for policy violations

Twitter on Friday suspended two very popular third-party Twitter applications for violating policies put in place for third-party developers who access Twitter’s APIs. UberTwitter, a top Twitter app for BlackBerry smartphones, and twitdroyd, an Android client, are both owned by UberMedia and have both been suspended. A Twitter spokesperson said they “violated Twitter policies and trademarks in a variety of ways,” citing a Twitter policies covering “a privacy issue with private Direct Messages longer than 140 characters, trademark infringement, and changing the content of users’ Tweets in order to make money.” It is unclear exactly what functions the apps were performing that violated Twitter’s policies. In its announcement of these suspensions, Twitter recommended that affected users download Twitter’s official mobile apps or other third-party apps instead of using UberTwitter or twitdroyd. More →

Beezz WP7 Twitter app has another major update in the works

Beezz WP7 Twitter app has another major update in the works

As with several desktop and mobile platforms, Twitter is being out-tweeted on Windows Phone 7. Subjectivity aside, third-party Twitter clients often provide a great deal of functionality omitted from Twitter’s official clients. Such is the case with an independently-developed app that is quickly becoming the go-to Twitter experience on Windows Phone 7 devices. Beezz already provides a host of great functionality left out of the official Windows Phone 7 Twitter app, and a major update will add nearly all of the core features the app is currently missing. New features in version 1.2 of the Beezz app include:

  • List support
  • Option to open app directly to main timeline
  • Favorites
  • Saved Searches
  • Old-style Retweet support
  • New live tile, which will include timeline, mentions and DMs
  • Picture Hub integration
  • Internet Explorer integration (tweet a URL from within IE — very handy since there is no copy/paste yet)
  • Bit.ly integration
  • Conversation view

DevMob, Beezz’s developer, hasn’t yet given a time frame for the new update, but we can asure you that the team is hard at work prepping the new release. Hit the jump for a quick teaser video highlighting a few upcoming features and in the meantime, version 1.1 of the Beezz app is currently available in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace for free.
