T-Mobile CMO: We aren’t getting the iPhone 5 [updated]

A leaked internal document from T-Mobile’s OneVoice intranet suggests T-Mobile will not launch the iPhone 5 this year. The document, obtained by TmoNews, cites a quote from T-Mobile chief marketing officer Cole Brodman during his speech at a September 15th Town Hall Field Service Center. “We are not going to get the iPhone 5 this year,” Brodman said, noting that T-Mobile will introduce two new smartphones that should spark consumer interest ahead of the holiday season. The legitimacy of the document is unknown so we’re still chalking this up as a rumor for now. We have heard plenty of reports that T-Mobile was testing an iPhone and a rumor late last month suggested the carrier was already preparing to launch the iPhone 5. Apple is largely expected to announce the device alongside a less expensive iPhone 4 some time next month.

UPDATE: A T-Mobile spokesperson issued the following statement to BGR via email on Tuesday evening: “We don’t comment on rumors. We remain focused on expanding our portfolio of 4G smartphones. We look forward to sharing on Monday, news about our latest and greatest product lineup.”

Apple may launch 3G iPod touch in September, rumor claims

Apple may launch 3G iPod touch in September, rumor claims

A Dutch Apple blog named AppleSpot reported on Friday that Apple will launch a new 3G iPod touch in September. Similar to options available for the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G, users would have the option of purchasing the 3G iPod touch directly from a wireless carrier with a data plan. We’re expecting a possible iPod/iPhone/iPad refresh in September, and so it’s entirely possible that Apple is considering creating a version with a 3G radio. Such a device could also help carriers lock in more data plans and would continue to boost Apple’s presence among the flood of new Android handsets. Our only gripe with the whole story is that AppleSpot doesn’t have a proven track record reporting on Apple rumors. Plus, a 3G iPod touch would be just a little weird given that we expect every major U.S. wireless carrier to announce the next generation iPhone. More →

CDMA iPhone and iPad 2 chatter grows ahead of Verizon’s January 11th announcement

Last Friday, technology-centric Internet sites exploded when news of a January 11th Verizon press conference broke. The nation’s largest wireless provider is expected to finally announce the highly-anticipated, oft-rumored, CDMA iPhone. Media outlets ranging from AllThingsD to the Wall Street Journal have emphatically proclaimed that an iPhone announcement is in the works. The publications have also reported that the unannounced device will have a truly unlimited data plan. Speculation is not, however, isolated to this one event and this one device. Digg founder Kevin Rose has thrown his hat into the ring with a next generation iPad prediction. Reporting on “good authority,” Mr. Rose notes:

Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next “3-4 weeks”, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.

Mr. Rose, who has speculated about Apple-specific announcements before and has a fairly reputable track record, did not offer any additional details about the device.

Whatever Verizon has planned, we’ll know at 11:00AM ET tomorrow.
