If you’ve been on pins and needles waiting for more information about the Droid X, today looks to be a pretty good day. According to Droid-Life, the site that has been absolutely crushing it when it comes to this particular phone, the Droid X will make its Verizon debut on July 19th. It goes without saying that this is a rumor, but apparently all of this will be made official next week. We can’t wait. Can you? More →
There’s no denying that the Droid X floodgates are wide open now. Over at the Android Forums some new photos of the device have emerged by way of user matrix2004. Far more fascinating than the typical leaked images, what makes these ones special is that the show off the X next to EVO 4G, iPhone 3G and Droid Eris giving us a good idea of its size. No surprises here, but it’s absolutely massive. Other things of note in the image are some of the custom widgets that come along with “Shadow BLUR“, the (thankfully) tasteful update to MOTOBLUR. Hit the jump to check out the X next to the Droid Eris.
We have heard from a source that the two upcoming Motorola Android handsets that have been floating about are launching pretty soon. More →
Speaking to reporters after a presentation at the Executive Club, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha said that his company will soon be announcing up to four handsets — presumably Android — that are capable of making video calls through front-facing cameras. Even though Jha said he has “never been a great believer” in video calling, he admitted that it is something that should be added to handsets, especially in light of the release of the EVO 4G and upcoming iPhone 4. In other Motorola news, Jha said that the Droid is selling very well through Verizon despite the fact that there is a shortage of components including displays from Samsung, an issue that is currently affecting sales of the HTC Droid Incredible. The crazy cats over at Droid Life are back once again with yet another leak of the Motorola MB810 which Droid Life claims will be sold as the Droid Xtreme and not the Droid Shadow. In the past we have seen this phone from various angles, but this is the first time we’ve ever seen its backside. Two things to take away from these pics. First is the camera which is clearly labelled as 8 megapixels with HD video and is flanked by a dual-LED flash. The second thing is UI customization. We’ve already seen the Xtreme powered on, but this picture gives us a much clearer look at the more subtle UI customization brought forth in what some are calling “ninja blur.” Are you liking how the Xtreme is shaping up? You can call it the Shadow, you can call it the Droid EXTREME, and you can even call it the DROID XTREME, but we say it should simply referred to as what it really is: sexy. Two new images of the Motorola MB810 have leaked out via Droid Life. According to their tipster who sent in the photos, the phone runs Android 2.2 aka Froyo and has 9 user customizable homescreens. The device is said to feel “very metal” and comes with a questionably located dedicated camera button. MOTOBLUR is claimed to be absent, but then we know this is unlikely true considering that wnrussell, the HoFo user that gave us our first look at the device, claims it runs in the background. Remember the guy that leaked the first clear image of the Motorola Shadow? No, not the live image, but the pic as seen on the user guide? Well he’s back and has brought with him yet another pic of the highly anticipated smartphone. But along with this leak comes the revelation that previous rumors were a bit off in the spec department. Instead of 4.3″, the WVGA display is 4.1″ diagonal. And that 16GB of internal memory? Apparently it’s actually a combination of 8GB internal and 8GB removable memory card. Regardless of the confusion over the aforementioned specs, we’d be pretty shocked if the 8 megapixel camera and 720MHz TI OMAP3630 processor didn’t pan out. More →
If this isn’t the product of Photoshop, then what we’re looking at here is the Motorola Shadow. Allegedly found lying around in a Verizon corporate gym, the employee that found the Big Red exclusive claims they were able to confirm rumored specs which include a 4.3″ WVGA display, 8 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, 16GB of internal memory, Snapdragon processor and HDMI out. Of course these claims — and the entire story for that matter — beg the question “why weren’t more photos taken” as proof, but we guess that’s just too much a chore for Mr. Blurrycam. Other rumors peg the Shadow as having a TI OMAP3630 processor approaching 800MHz and a PowerVR SGX530 GPU capable of 1080p output. We should find out how accurate these rumors are when the Shadow drops either in June or July. More →
Could this be the Motorola Shadow? According to HoFo user wnrussell, it is. Spotted with DROID branding in what appears to be a draft copy of a user guide, the Shadow looks to be sporting some sort of custom overlay that’s more than likely the oft-rumored update to MOTOBLUR. Just in case you’re memory is a bit rusty, here’s what we think the Shadow is all about: 4.1″ to 4.3″ WVGA display, 8 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, and a TI OMAP3630 processor. Other rumors have the Shadow capable of outputting 1080p video thanks to a PowerVR SGX530 GPU, and possibly being as thin as 9mm. Whether or not it ships with Android 2.1 or 2.2 is a bit of a contentious issue, but many are speculating it will ship this July with the former and rapidly be updated to 2.2. We’ll see. More →
A mysterious new Motorola smartphone — the A955 — was recently certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance for 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The model number is new to us, but according to a week-old tweet from someone who monitors Android device signatures, the A955 is indeed the DROID 2, aka Shadow, and has been spotted cruising about the interwebs on Verizon’s EV-DO network. This flies straight in the face of an older rumor which pegged the model number as being the MB810. But think about it..all of Verizon’s recent Motorola handsets have the model number Axxx, including the the DROID — A855. Does’t it make sense that the DROID 2 would carry on in the same fashion? It’s not exactly concrete proof, but for now it’s the best we’ve got.
UPDATE: Looks like we can put the whole “Shadow is the DROID 2″ rumors to bed. The same Twittter who tweeted about the A955 being the DROID recently tweeted that the MB810 is the Shadow.
Hmm… so we’ve got an update to the Samsung Propel, have we? More or less, yes, this is as we’re told, the Samsung Propel Pro and it brings pro-level features with it. Things like Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, an optical joystick (which our ninja says is absolutely worthless), 3G, and we’d guess a camera and what not. We haven’t been told anything other than that the QWERTY keyboard is pretty decent, but we’re still in the dark on a release date, pricing, and the usual ever-important spec sheet on this AT&T device. Hey, T-Mobile Shadow, you just got scooped like ice cream. Couple more shots after the jump!
After the long and arduous wait for the most hardcore Shadow fans, your day has come. Just like we promised, it is now available for your calling and messaging pleasure. This new iteration of the popular HTC device sports a faster processor and also supports T-Mobile HotSpot@Home, which makes it the first Windows Mobile phone to have that feature, and also means it has Wi-Fi (great news since it’s lacking in the HSDPA department). For $149.99 with a two-year contract and qualifying data plan, this is a pretty good deal if you’re up for renewal or looking for a mid-level smartphone. If black and burgundy isn’t your thing, the phone also comes in white mint. Hit the jump for more info and details on the newly available Nokia 7510.
The holidays are almost over and a new year is upon us. For many, this time feels a little dreary since a lot of excitement subsides in place of new beginnings and resolutions. To make settling into a new year more exciting, T-Mobile has announced some new deals for the new year. Starting today, T-Mobile is doing a three-day promotion for some of its phones and services:
- Blackberry Pearl 8100 for $49.99 (12/26 – 12/28)
- T-Mobile Shadow for $29.99 (12/26 – 12/28)
- Sign up for T-Mobile @Home and get the first month free (12/26 – 12/28)
- Free Companion Flight extended to January 5, 2009
- 50% off selected accessories
Not such a bad bunch of deals, right? If you’re looking to save a few bucks on a new phone or service after draining your wallet for the holidays, keep those dates in mind because these are limited time offers. Do note that those prices, obviously, will come with a two-year contract as most deals do these days. If you aren’t familiar with the Free Companion Flight, you and a friend (and sometimes up to five friends) get to fly free to anywhere in the continental United States if you sign or upgrade to a new two-year contract. So, are you warming up your car yet?
