I finally had space for a decent media room, but I quickly realized that throwing up a flat screen on an empty wall would make the TV look incredibly small. I hadn’t liked projectors up until this point; they looked terrible with any light on in the room, they were bulky, noisy and heavy, and they required power and video (among other cables) to be run up through the ceiling. I finally gave in, though, and here’s a quick look at some of my favorite products from companies I’ve used to put together a small in-home media room.

Apple Store to eliminate restocking fees, configure new Mac purchases

According to two unconfirmed reports from Apple blog 9 to 5 Mac, Apple will be changing two key policies at its Apple Store retail locations. First, the blog reports that Apple plans to do away with its restocking fees beginning tomorrow, January 11th. Currently, Apple charges a 10% restocking fee to customers returning non-defective products purchased purchased from an Apple Store location. Moving forward, according to the report, Apple will no longer require that a fee be paid when returning functional products. 9 to 5 Mac also reports that Apple will soon implement a personal setup service for Mac computers. Despite the simple configuration processes on Macs, Apple Store employees will “help you setup [sic] your e-mail accounts, walk you through the Mac App Store, setup an iTunes account for you, and show you the basic pointers of owning a Mac.” The new configuration assistance policy is also expected to go into effect tomorrow. AT&T mystery retail displays contain BlackBerry Torch 9800

Just a quick follow up to a post we wrote up last night. The mysterious cylindrical displays that were showing up at select AT&T stores across the country were in fact for the newly minted BlackBerry Torch 9800. There isn’t much else to report, but we thought we should close the loop. Anyone have a local AT&T store with one of these bad boys setup?

Firefox Home now in App Store

It looks like Apple has just green-lighted Mozilla’s latest application submission: Firefox Home. Home is a program designed to provide “access to your Firefox desktop history, bookmarks and open tabs on your iPhone.” If you’re an iPhone toting Firefox user, who loves to stay in sync, hit up the App Store and let the good times roll.
