Apple initiates seven day app return policy in Taiwan

Apple has initiated a new seven day return policy in Taiwan in accordance with the country’s consumer protection laws, MacRumors reported on Friday. Taiwanese iTunes App Store customers can now receive a full refund on purchased applications within a seven day window after the purchase date. Specifically, Apple’s iTunes App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store terms now state:

You may cancel your purchase within seven (7) days from the date of delivery and iTunes will reimburse you for the amount paid, provided you inform iTunes that you have deleted all copies of the product. Upon cancellation you will no longer be licensed to use the product. This right cannot be waived.

Apple doesn’t currently offer that option to customers in the United States. Instead, consumers must approach Apple and request a refund on a specific app. That request will then be reviewed and Apple grants refunds as it sees fit. Google’s competing Android Market allows users to receive a full refund within a 15-minute window after downloading a new application. We’d certainly love to see Apple provide this sort of refund process in the United States, but we’re not holding our breath. More →

According to blog Electricpig in the UK, Apple will be refunding the new price difference to customers that purchased an iPad between February 16th and March 2nd. “We were assured by Apple’s sales team that Apple would refund the £100 price difference, without any complicated returns and exchanges, so you can take advantage of the price drop on the original iPad,” writes the site. Apple’s standard return policy is 14-days, so if you purchased an original iPad in the last two weeks: get your head examined and then bring that tablet back to your local Apple Store for a price adjustment. Confirmed: T-Mobile to drop FlexPay, require deposits

We reported yesterday that T-Mobile will be eliminating its FlexPay plans, and we’ve now received a screen shot of an internal T-Mobile document that confirms the carrier’s plans to drop FlexPay. In its place, T-Mobile will be introducing a program that lets customers with unsatisfactory credit sign up for postpaid-like plans by leaving deposits up front. These deposits range from $50 per line to $400 per line, and will be based on the customer’s credit rating. Full deposit amounts will need to be paid at the time of activation and deposits will be refunded in their entirety after accounts have been in good standing for 12 months.

Apple Store to eliminate restocking fees, configure new Mac purchases

According to two unconfirmed reports from Apple blog 9 to 5 Mac, Apple will be changing two key policies at its Apple Store retail locations. First, the blog reports that Apple plans to do away with its restocking fees beginning tomorrow, January 11th. Currently, Apple charges a 10% restocking fee to customers returning non-defective products purchased purchased from an Apple Store location. Moving forward, according to the report, Apple will no longer require that a fee be paid when returning functional products. 9 to 5 Mac also reports that Apple will soon implement a personal setup service for Mac computers. Despite the simple configuration processes on Macs, Apple Store employees will “help you setup [sic] your e-mail accounts, walk you through the Mac App Store, setup an iTunes account for you, and show you the basic pointers of owning a Mac.” The new configuration assistance policy is also expected to go into effect tomorrow. Verizon Wireless refunding $90 million in data charges to customers

Verizon Wireless just hit us up, and the news is very big. Verizon is refunding erroneously billed customers over $90 million next month. 15 million cellular customers were wrongly charged for internet usage, Verizon said, and they will be refunding around $2-$6 (and possibly much more) per customer. If you’ve already skipped out on Big Red, your reimbursement will come in the form of a check in the mail. Why is Verizon Wireless doing this? Well, it’s being reported by the The New York Times that the FCC presured Verizon as hundreds of complaints about this issue had been building up.
