PlayStation Mobile launches for PS Vita and select Android smartphones and tablets

PlayStation Mobile Release Date

Sony (SNE) announced on Wednesday that PlayStation Mobile, its cross-platform mobile gaming service, is now live in major regions across North America, Europe and Japan. PlayStation Mobile brings mobile games not only to the PS Vita, but an array of Android-based Sony smartphones and devices including the Xperia Play, Arc and Ion, Tablet P/S and the new Xperia Tablet S. In addition to Sony-made mobile devices, PlayStation Mobile is also supported by HTC’s One S, V and X. The $499 Wikipad will also run PlayStation Mobile games when it launches at the end of the month. The appeal of PlayStation Mobile is that users can buy a PlayStation Mobile game once and play it on any compatible device.  More →

PlayStation Mobile Details Revealed

Earlier this year, Sony (SNE) revealed that its PlayStation Suite for mobile devices had been renamed to PlayStation Mobile. The gaming service, which launched in 2011, initially allowed owners of PlayStation certified devices, such as the Xperia Play, to play older PlayStation games on their Android smartphones and tablets. At the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, Sony announced that it was bringing Playstation Mobile to HTC’s (2498) devices, making the Taiwanese smartphone vendor the first non-Sony company to earn the certification. Playstation Suite renamed to PlayStation Mobile, HTC jumps on board

Sony on Tuesday at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles announced that its PlayStation Suite for mobile devices will be renamed to PlayStation Mobile. Sony initially unveiled the mobile gaming platform and marketplace in January 2011. The Suite allows owners of PlayStation certified devices, such as the Xperia Play, to play various older PlayStation games on their Android smartphones and tablets. During its E3 media event, Sony also announced that it has partnered with HTC to bring PlayStation Mobile to the Taiwanese vendor’s smartphones, making it the first non-Sony company to be PlayStation Certified. “HTC is focused on delivering innovative mobile experiences for people everywhere and SCE’s immersive world of gaming will bring compelling entertainment to HTC One customers across the globe,” said Kouji Kodera, HTC’s chief product officer.
