MacBook Air benchmarks: stock vs. built-to-order

Ever since Apple announced the new MacBook Air — and we found out there was a built-to-order option which upped not only the RAM but CPU — we figured it would be worth putting it head to head with the stock model to see performance differences. We have a 13-inch MacBook Air “stock” model with a 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD drive. Our built to order MacBook Air is rocking a 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD drive. Hit the jump to check out our results. More →

Sprint to begin taking pre-orders of HTC 7 Pro on November 8th for Microsoft employees

Sprint to begin taking pre-orders of HTC 7 Pro on November 8th for Microsoft employees

We’ve just confirmed with wireless carrier Sprint that the company will begin taking pre-orders for the HTC 7 Pro Windows Phone 7 device beginning on November 8th. Now, before you get too excited… the offer is for Microsoft employees only. Sprint did not share any additional details about the why the employee program exists, what general consumer availability of the device would be, or device pricing. Sprint’s statement contradicts rumors that have been circulating the web stating that the company would be offering pre-orders of the HTC device to the general public on the 8th.

Regardless of the employee pre-order date, HTC has publicly stated that the CDMA-capable 7 Pro would not be available until sometime in 2011. Combine that unambiguous statement with the fact that HTC did not have a working prototype of the device at the WP7 launch event last month, and: 2011 still seems like the proper timeline to us. Although, in this instance… we wouldn’t mind being wrong. More →

Apple's iPhone 4 China debut, 100,000 units in four days

Vice President of China Unicom, Li Gang, told reporters that his company has completely sold through their first shipment of iPhone 4s. The shipment, which totaled 100,000 units, took just four days to sell out. The Chinese mobile operator also reported that over 200,000 customers have pre-ordered the device; the company has since stopped taking online reservations due to the demand. When the iPhone 3G and 3GS launched, it took one month for China Unicom to sell 100,000 devices. Analyst Liu Liang credited a record number of Chinese mobile users adopting smartphones, as well as positive media attention around the iPhone 4, as possible reasons for the strong sales numbers. China Unicom is expected to get their next shipment of iPhone 4s around October 1. More →

UPDATED: Dell Streak goes on sale tomorrow in U.S.

By on July 27, 2010 at 10:01 AM.

UPDATED: Dell Streak goes on sale tomorrow in U.S.

You can’t pre-order yourself a Dell Streak anymore, but that really doesn’t matter all that much. According to the company’s website, you can purchase your new Dell Streak — regular order style — beginning tomorrow. The Streak’s pre-order page has been updated, and now reads:

Our Dell Streak pre-sale sign-up opportunity is no longer available. Please visit http://www.dell.com/streak tomorrow to purchase your Dell Streak.

Anyone have plans to pick one up?

UPDATE: Our friends from Dell were kind enough to reach out and let us know that the Streak will in-fact not be released tomorrow. Apparently — according to Dell — the web team was testing “future” versions of the Streak webpage and several pages accidentally went live for about an hour (including the one pictured above saying you can purchase the device tomorrow). Dell still has not provided an official release date for the 5-inch handset… back to the waiting game! More →

BlackBerry 9650, BlackBerry 8230, Motorola ES400, and more show up in Sprint's order forms

Sprint3

If you’re a BlackBerry user on Sprint you’re probably itching to get a brand new BlackBerry device, you know, seeing as yours is probably outdated already. Well, if you’re looking for a new BlackBerry 9650 or BlackBerry 8230, you might not have to wait too long as they’ve just showed up in Sprint’s order forms. In addition to those two devices making appearances, a Motorola device, the ES400 also shows up too, in addition to the previously seen Palm C40. We’re betting the Motorola device is an Android handset, not a Windows Mobile handset as previously thought. Couple more shots after the break! More →
