T-Mobile to release LG G2X, G-Slate on April 20th, suggests rumor

According to blog TmoNews, T-Mobile will release the G-Slate tablet and G2X smartphone next month on April 20th. The blog notes that the two LG devices should be given firm release date on the nation’s fourth largest provider next week at the CTIA Wireless conference in Orlando, FL. The LG G2X will be a T-Mobile branded Optimus 2X and the G-Slate is the Honeycomb device we saw announced at CES back in January. We know the G-Slate will be sporting an HSPA+, 4G radio, but details on the G2X are still unknown.

Motorola ATRIX 4G vs. LG Optimus 2X: Not all dual-cores are created equal

Motorola ATRIX 4G vs. LG Optimus 2X: Not all dual-cores are created equal

Android enthusiast blog Android and Me oversaw a benchmark battle royale on Friday. While the goal of the exercise was to pit the ATRIX 4G against the LG Optimus 2X to see which phone makes better use of its dual-core Tegra 2 processor, the overall results help emphasize something we constantly stress here on BGR: specs are only half the story. The blog arranged a benchmark battle between the ATRIX 4G and Optimus 2X along with Google’s Nexus S and Nexus One, HTC’s G2 and Motorola’s DROID, and the results are hardly what you might expect. First things first — LG’s Optimus 2X handily topped the list in six of eight tests performed, bested only by the ATRIX in the Smartbench 2011 productivity test and the Linpack test. The 800MHz-packing G2 outdid several 1GHz offerings in numerous tests, however, which may come a s surprise to many. Hit the break for a few sets of benchmark results mapped out on graphs, then hit the read link to check out the rest. LG Optimus Black and Optimus 2X hands-on

LG Optimus Black and Optimus 2X hands-on

Last night, LG threw a laser-packed bash to welcome the addition of the Optimus Black and Optimus 2X to their stable of Android-powered handsets. While both devices were on display, the Optimus 2X was clearly the star of the show. Featuring an nVidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor running at 1GHz per core, the Optimus 2X is an incredibly powerful handset that, along with this year’s other Tegra-powered phones, will help to set a new standard for smartphone performance. The graphics on this thing were stunning, the screen is gorgeous, and the phone absolutely flies along. The handsets on display were running Froyo, but all of the display material noted that Gingerbread is all but a foregone conclusion as soon as it hits the streets. LG had 3 of these things hooked up to what looked like 42″ displays via the included HDMI output, and the gaming and graphics performance on the big screen was pretty incredible. No frame-rate issues, full HD display, and more. Really cool stuff.

The Optimus Black, on the other hand, is all about aesthetics. It was super responsive to be sure, but its 1GHz OMAP3630 processor paled in comparison to the Tegra. That said, it’s not as if the Optimus Black didn’t have its virtues. The device is super thin, is really well manufactured and designed, it definitely feels like more of a luxury/up-market device in hand. The Optimus Blacks were also running Froyo, but featured a new Wi-Fi direct feature that allows for long range peer-to-peer connections. The Optimus Black also has what is being touted as the “world’s first front-facing 2 megapixel camera” allowing for relatively passable shots from the forward camera, and definitely paving the way for a bit of a higher quality video chatting experience than we’ve come to expect from the mobile arena. Oh, and did we mention that LG brought lasers? Click on over to the respective galleries for more shots and some video from the event!

Tegra 2 handsets a plenty at CES, says NVIDIA

According to a fresh press release by NVIDIA, a “new wave of super phones” will be “announced shortly at CES.” Touting the specification prowess of the LG Optiums 2X, the company writes that these new super phones will “use powerful multi-core CPU processors, lightning-fast GPUs and ultralow power requirements – which create magical video and gaming experiences.”

“People are looking at their mobile device as a computer first and a phone second,” said Michael Rayfield, General Manager of mobile business at NVIDIA. “Tegra’s brought the super phone to another level with new mobile experiences that haven’t been possible before.”

CES officially kicks off tomorrow, so expect handset announcements to accelerate then. As always, keep it locked on BGR for all the latest and greatest. NVIDIA’s full press release is after the jump. More →

LG Optimus 2X and iPhone 4 browsers do battle in video comparison

LG Optimus 2X and iPhone 4 browsers do battle in video comparison

Following its announcement last month, LG’s Optimus 2X has become one of the most anticipated upcoming Android handsets thanks to the dual-core Tegra 2 processor buried within its sleek, slim case. Of course, all that will change on Thursday when new dual-core Android phones are introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but for the time being, all eyes are on the 2X. Zealous enthusiast blog Android Arena has uncovered a short comparison video that pits the Optimus 2X’s Tegra-fueled Web browser against the iPhone 4, and LG’s Android beast certainly appears to come out on top. Though the tests are anything but scientific and only two Web pages were visited on camera, the video clearly shows the iPhone 4 being bested by the Optimus 2X, which apparently loads images and other content much faster than Apple’s iPhone. Hit the break for the video. More →

LG projects slowed growth in 2011, still shoots for record sales

LG Group announced Tuesday that it projects record sales of nearly $136 billion in 2011. LG also stated that 2010 sales are estimated to come in at $123 billion, an impressive 13% improvement over 2009. LG’s 2011 sales projections would set a new record for the company, though its growth rate would slow to 11% year-over-year. Between its electronics, chemical and mobile businesses, LG Group anticipates that approximately 75% of its sales revenue will come from markets outside of South Korea, where the conglomerate is headquartered. It expects overseas sales to increase 18% in 2011, to $107.3 billion, and LG’s electronics units are projected to account for roughly 62% of its total revenue. More →
