T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide gets Android 2.2 Froyo update

T-Mobile and HTC have finally released the anticipated Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide. The update adds support for placing free calls over Wi-Fi networks in addition to a new low-storage notification, resolved Bluetooth compatibility issues, text messaging and picture messaging bug fixes, and improved overall reliability. The software will also add support for both USB tethering and mobile hotspot, which will allow users to share their 3G connections with other devices via Wi-Fi. You’ll need 25MB of storage space on your phone to get started, and unfortunately it’s only available to Windows users for now. Hit the jump for a download link and instructions on how to update. myTouch 3G Slide available through T-Mobile

If you’re and Android user on T-Mobile, then we probably don’t need to remind you of this, but for everyone else, the myTouch 3G Slide is available as of today. A decent handset by all accounts, there is but one major problem with it — it’s priced at $179.99 with an Even More plan with 2-year contract or $429.99 outright with Even More Plus. Yes, you certainly do contract-free financing provided you pledge to pay $21.50 per month over 20 months, but no matter how you slice it, you’re still going to be paying top dollar for something that really doesn’t command it. HTC: Your 2010 Android smartphone will "likely" get FroYo

Have a new Android smartphone from HTC? Obsessing over whether or not it will get an official FroYo plus Sense UI update? Well fear not, because HTC has issued a statement to sooth your panic-stricken soul. Unfortunately, it’s so vague that it actually raises more questions than it answers. According to HTC:

[...] if your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version. This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades. We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can’t be more specific yet.

Most likely? Uh oh. We’re hoping that the shadows of doubt placed upon the Desire, Droid Incredible, EVO 4G and myTouch 3G Slide can be attributed to poor choice of words, but what about the Legend? Better yet, what about the Sprint Hero (October 2009) or the Verizon Droid Eris (November 2009)? If you thought people put up a stink about how long it took the Sprint Hero to get bumped up to Android 2.1, prepare yourself. There’s no telling what the Android Army is capable of. More →

myTouch 3G Slide coming to T-Mobile on June 2nd… for $180

myTouch 3G Slide coming to T-Mobile on June 2nd… for $180

tmobile-mytouch-slide

Today, T-Mobile announced that the fabled myTouch 3G Slide will be available to the masses starting on June 2nd. Despite the fact that the 3G Slide is nowhere near the most advanced Android smartphone on the market, we know for a fact that a lot of readers are really looking forward to picking one up from T-Mo. There is just one problem…for some unknown reason, T-Mobile is going to ask customers to pay in blood $179.99 for the Slide after a $50 MIR. For those of you keeping track — and we know you are — that’s only $20 cheaper than Sprint’s EVO 4G which launches 4 days later for $199.99. The question is: Are we the only ones who think $180 is way too much to pay for the myTouch 3G Slide, or are the folks at T-Mobile smarter than we are? More →

Rumor puts the myTouch 3G Slide's price at $150

tmo-mytouch-3g-pricing

With only a few weeks to go before sales officially kick off, retail pricing for T-Mobile’s myTouch 3G Slide has leaked out. Pegged at $399.99 on an Even More Plus plan and $149.99 with an Even More plan after $50 MIR, there’s also an option to pay $23 per month over 20 months (apparently the $3 monthly premium nets you $60 worth of accessories). A part of us wants to be believe that this information is correct and the actual pricing will be a bit lower, but considering its the same price T-Mobile is currently asking for the original and slide-less myTouch 3G, we’re not about to risk holding our breath. The myTouch 3G Slide was initially rumored to land on June 2nd, but some people who claim to be in the know are now calling for a June 16th release. More →
