AT&T begins pushing 'NoDo' Windows Phone update to Focus, Quantum

AT&T has confirmed that it has started pushing the “NoDo” Windows Phone 7 update to Samsung Focus and LG Quantum handsets. The software update will bring copy and paste functionality, along with a host of other improvements, to Microsoft’s mobile fledgling operating system. A Microsoft official noted that AT&T’s HTC Surround is still in the testing phase, and that it is working to get the update ready for that particular handset as soon as possible. Neither Microsoft nor AT&T provided a timeline indicating when the update roll-out is expected to be completed. More →

LG exec says Windows Phone 7 sales aren’t meeting expectations, OS is ‘boring’ to some

LG’s global head of marketing strategy and planning James Choi may soon find himself in hot water following a few loose comments made to British blog Pocket-lint. Of Windows Phone 7 devices sales, Choi said sales have not met the phone maker’s expectations thus far. “From an industry perspective we had a high expectation, but from a consumer point of view the visibility is less than we expected.” Choi went on to say that savvy users might find Windows Phone 7 “boring” after using it for a short period of time, but that there are other consumers the platform appeals to. “For tech guys like us it might be a little bit boring after a week or two, but there are certain segments that it really appeals to,” said Choi. “We strongly feel that it has a strong potential even though the first push wasn’t what everyone expected.” LG release a pair of Windows Phone 7 devices last year — the Optimus 7 and AT&T’s LG Quantum. Neither device received ovely positive reviews. More →

AT&T offers Black Friday WP7 BOGO, but it’s not much of a deal

AT&T and Microsoft want to brighten your holidays while simultaneously lightening your pockets, but wise shoppers will likely look elsewhere. AT&T is offering up a free Samsung Focus, HTC Surround or LG Quantum on Black Friday when one of the aforementioned Windows Phones is purchased at full retail, or $199.99. Of course they’re all great phones, but online retailers like Amazon already have that deal beat. AmazonWireless is offering the Focus, Surround and Quantum for $49.99 each and you don’t even have to wait until Friday to order. The retailer also throws free shipping and waived activation fees into the mix. So really, the only reason to go for AT&T’s deal at twice the price of Amazon’s is if the Focus strikes your fancy — Samsung’s WP7 handset is backordered at Amazon and likely won’t start shipping again for a couple of weeks. LG Quantum now available from AT&T

There’s still some time left to grab a new LG Quantum from AmazonWireless for just 1¢, but LG has announced that its new Windows Phone is now also available directly from AT&T. LG’s first Windows Phone 7-powered device is available immediately online and in AT&T stores nationwide for $199.99 with a two-year contract. While AT&T’s price is $199.98 more than the great Amazon sale price that expires tonight at midnight, it’s still a decent deal for a 3.5-inch touchscreen device with a sliding QWERTY keypad, a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera and 16GB of internal memory. Takers also get to snag 10 free apps from the LG section in Microsoft’s Windows Marketplace. Hit the break for the full press release. More →
