LG Optimus 3D passes FCC with T-Mobile 3G bands

T-Mobile customers looking to get in on some trippy googly-eyed 3D action may not have long to wait. The FCC has just passed through a device called the LG P920, also known as the LG Optimus 3D. This new version features support for the AWS/PCS/WCDMA/HSPA bands, suggesting it could launch on T-Mobile in the United States. As a refresher: the Optimus 3D runs Android 2.2 (Froyo) and features a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of on-board storage and two 5-megapixel cameras on the back for recording 3D and HD video. The Optimus 3D offers support for HSPA+ networks, so if it launches on T-Mobile we’ll likely see it tagged and glittered up with 4G branding. After all, AT&T just announced that it’s going to offer the LG Optimus 3D as the LG Thrill 4G “in the coming months.” More →

LG Optimus 3D shares 3D videos with special YouTube app

LG Optimus 3D shares 3D videos with special YouTube app

LG on Monday announced a partnership with YouTube that will allow LG Optimus 3D users to share 3D video content using a special YouTube 3D app. The app, which will come pre-installed on LG’s new 3D smartphone, will allow users to upload 3D video content directly to YouTube’s 3D channel and share the videos with friends. Deals like this are crucial to the success of the Optimus 3D, as owners must have ways to easily share captured 3D content and view said content on PCs and other devices. Unlike videos viewed on the Optimus 3D’s glasses-free 3D display, however, users will need 3D glasses in order to properly view 3D videos uploaded from the phone to the YouTube 3D channel. Glasses are available from a variety of vendors, and they can also be purchased directly from Google’s YouTube Store for $7.10 per 10-pack. Hit the break for LG’s full press release and don’t forget to check out our LG Optimus 3D hands-on impressions, gallery and video. LG confirms glasses-free Optimus 3D unveiling set for MWC

LG confirmed on Tuesday that it will unveil what it calls “the world’s first 3D smartphone” at Mobile World Congress 2011 later this month. Details are very slim for the time being, but the main attraction on the upcoming LG Optimus 3D will be its glasses-free 3D experience coupled with a dual-lens camera capable of recording video in 3D. The phone will also feature an HDMI-out port and DLNA video streaming capability. LG will become the first to bet on 3D in cell phones and in light of the terrible quarter LG reported last week, we hope consumers will show more interest in 3D smartphones than they have in 3D televisions. Hit the break for LG’s press release. LG likely to announce Optimus 3D next month

A new report from Dutch mobile enthusiast blog All About Phones coupled with a suggestive event invitation points to a February announcement of LG’s rumored 3D smartphone. LG on Tuesday circulated an invitation to press and bloggers for an event that will be held in Barcelona during this year’s Mobile World Congress. While the invitation does not mention the LG Optimus 3D by name, it does picture an unannounced LG Optimus smartphone above the words, “Into the New Dimension.” In addition, All About Phones points out that Carphone Warehouse’s Dutch contingent briefly and accidentally posted a placeholder for the LG Optimus 3D, before later pulling it from the site. The Optimus 3D is expected to include a glasses-free 3D display panel similar to the ones used by the Nintendo 3DS, though additional specs are unknown at this time. More →
